*Scroll down for Atlanta Rhythm Section’s YouTube video of Imaginary Lover

Who was her imaginary friend

The one joining her at age 5

She cannot remember if

The friend was a boy or girl

But she always wanted a sister

So she’ll guess it was a female

Now, decades later,

That childhood desolation

Surfaces from the

Empty craters of her soul

And once again

She has an imaginary friend

Definitely a man

So in adultese, he is called

A fantasy

From incubator to grave

Life repeats

Full circle

But unlike the beginning point

Brimming with promise

The end point

Floods with disappointment

That she never really progressed

Past inescapable loneliness…
