Listening to music

Not doing it

Now require live bands

Something about the energy

Like a Sci-Fi alien

Feeding off the vitality of Earthlings

Like a line of Green-Belts

At a karate dojo

Feeding off each other’s power

While performing a kata

Like being with a real man

Feeding off the potent blood and bone

Below the surface of his skin

Instead of touching pixels

And hearing a disembodied voice

From a smart phone

Maybe old hearts require

Drinking directly from the font

A tangible, physical source

Creating a bond of synergy

Crackling along a worn-out path for

Reanimation of a fading energy…

Crashed internet

Claustrophobic invasion

Panicking the psyche

Puzzling because

Not a chit-chatterer

Yet living in a hot tin box

Bearable by

Escaping into an electronic one

One that doesn’t dictate

What to watch, say, eat, or pray to

Life a click away

Until the day

Of apocalyptic crashing

Four horses riding in

With power over me:

Duke Electric

Frontier FIOS

US Government

Credit Union bank error

All gone

And then

Then the walls close in…

Dionysus, the famous party boy,

Fell in love with

Ariadne, abandoned princess

She who aided Theseus

In his escape from the labyrinth

After murdering her father’s monster

The Minotaur who fed on the sacrificials

Ariadne agreed to help Theseus

If he would take her with him

Wanting to escape Crete

Mostly wanting to be

With her beloved hero

She trailblazed a path

Through the passages with thread

Theseus escaped, took her to an island

Then left her for dead

Dionysus found Ariadne

Immortalizing the princess

By flinging her crown into the aethers

Ptolemy, second century astronomer

Named the collection of seven stars Corona Borealis

Here stands a lonely poet

Not twenty minutes before a May midnight

In twenty-first century Florida

Gazing at the same crown of stars

While pondering how

And faithless men

Are unchangeable over time…

If you were putting together

A jigsaw puzzle

For a year

And there was only one more piece

To add

Couldn’t you say you loved the way

The puzzle made you feel?

Couldn’t you say

That one piece didn’t matter?

So when we met

After a period

Of intense communication

A letter-writing courtship

Like the Brownings

I already loved you

And seeing you

Touching you

Feeling you

And almost singing my love for you

Was the same as placing

That missing piece of

Blues-in-the-night sky or

Basic-but-delicious yellow mustard sun or

Gemstone turquoise water or

Autumn-kissed trees of red…

*Scroll down to hear a YouTube video of Hattie Carroll by Bob Dylan*

The first time hearing

“The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll”

Scattering his words across my enraged soul

Shoved by the force of the tidal wave

Engulfed in a musical swelling

All went dark

Only Dylan in a spotlight

Dylan, a light diffuser,

As the lyrics gushed

In a pinpointing geyser

Soaking me

Sixteen soon

Guiding me

Down a one-way path

That would last a lifetime

On a search for misplaced justice…

Will you

Materialize it

Emotionalize it

Analyze it

Spiritualize it

How do you want it served–

Piled on possessions

Rampaging through the heart

As a subject for debates

A head of a pin dance floor for

Pirouetting angels

Will it grow from the Earth

Roll on oceans’ waving Water

Straight-arrow through the Air

Fling Fire from a mountain top

Like the vintage film concluded

Love must surely be the

Fifth Element…

Can’t strum my ukulele

Or click my mouse

On these damp days

Stuck in the house

Here’s my recipe

That will always work

Doesn’t cost much

Surely a perk

Three dollar bag of dried chili peppers

Three dollar bottle of virgin olive oil

One dollar pair of garden gloves

Fingers snipped since not using soil

Best to do this

When Moon going New to Full

But in emergencies

Extractions still pull

Break up ten dried peppers

The oil is where you slip them in

Shake well each day

Hide in a cabinet or dark covered bin

After two weeks

Be sure to strain oil

Then you can refrigerate

So it will not spoil

Rub it on the aching joints

Or pulled body parts

Within a short time

You’ll feel like an herbalist so smart!

My annual poem:

(scroll down for YouTube videos of the celebration)

My heart will be in

Saintes Maries-de-la-Mer

Where my soul will dance

In Languedoc, Camargue

The South of France

Not only a refuge for the Knights Templar

And Mary La Magdalene

But also home to countless images

Of Black Virgins so serene

Reflecting peaceful love

Sara E Kali—Sara the Black—

Confluence of the Hindu Goddess Kali

Women warriors combatting political folly

Some sinners but certainly

The church-approved saints

One version of the story

Tells of Marie Jacobe and Marie Salome

Accompanying Mary Magdalene

When she fled the Holy Land

After attempting to make a stand

We Roma believe that

Sara, a Gypsy,

Saw their boat floundering and

Tossed her (head scarf) diklo

Upon the waters, when they could not row

This enabled the three Marys to

Walk or sail across the water to shore

Establishing a rapport

Between the women forever more

As they brought their message of peace

The Roma come to the town

These two dates in May

To celebrate Sara E Kali

Patron saint of Gypsies and Travellers

To show their love on a feast day

In an alcove stands the tall, lovely statue

Serenely gazing out of large, dark eyes

Covered in beautiful, filmy diklos

Presented by those who ask for help

Or have received help from one so wise

Saint Sara E Kali, carried into the sea

Violins and voices of praise

This sublime personification of a

Saint-Goddess-Woman surrounded by bouquets

Apocryphal representative of our bloodlines
