Entwined in DNA

Dreams refusing to die

Whether for

We will grow legs

And crawl out of the muck

We will align with the greenery

And face the sun

We will rev up the engine

And drive forevermore

Physical or mental

Brings us to the border

O, we must refuse to

Hover between fantasy

And the real

Those who dig the deepest

Wresting the treasure chest

From the Earth’s grasp

Those who claim the prize

Will inherit the future

The priciest double helix

To pass along

Singing the sacred song

Of a life well won…

  1. Lovely piece and concept Clarissa, the priciest double helix. I’m hearing the contradiction that we all struggle with. Seeking, striving, competing as we have throughout evolution and all for the future of the DNA that rule us. Yet we can let it go, like you did when you wrote this piece. 😃

    1. Thank you, Steve! Yes, I’m realizing how strong that double helix is, how war is merely a part of survival, and will never end. But as you infer, some of us will retain some civility and let go, at times…
