HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

(revised my folk hotel poem from T-giving)

Happy Valentine’s Day
This is important for me to say
Social Media is our folk hotel
Visiting daily, we share and retell

Showing pictures of our dog and cat
And our granddaughter the acrobat
Yummy recipes make me hungry
Love the chance to sign petitions about the bumblebee

Wonderful to hear about your son
Life is tough but they still have fun
What amazing writing and crafts so handy
Thanks for accepting our modus operandi

We huddle together when tragedy does come
It visits us all and we succumb
But having loving thoughts sent our way
Soothes us like a spiritual bouquet

So keep on posting and let me know
How life is, just say hello
Know I think of you although I don’t say
You’re always in my mind on any day

Love & Fun & Happiness to you and your Crew…

Happy Thanksgiving Day

Yummy recipes make me hungry
Love the chance to sign petitions about the bumblebee

A BIT OF A BREAK

Well, I finally feel the need for a little break from Social Media.  I am so appreciative of everyone’s comments and likes but find I can no longer keep up.  So I’ve removed the comments section (thank you, Denise, for your help!) but not sure if that also includes “like.”  I may post occasionally and I definitely will keep track of my Reader because one of the fun things in life is reading good writing and EVERY ONE of my followers and those I follow are exceptional!

Don’t know how long this will last.  I already feel a bit lost at the thought of not communicating with you.  Although I no longer scroll on Facebook, I do check messages.  My FB page is public, anyone can post or message me.  I can’t keep up with Twitter so that may not work.  But here are my two email addresses.  I always check my main one at least one thousand times a day 🙂  Please feel free to keep in touch.

Thank you, and hopefully I will be back!

“ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE”

Make sense, make sense of scariness by structure

Journalize the fear

So I mind-say Dear Diary:

We know each other

On the strength of our poetry

Generously offering me

A place to stay, words of comfort

On this horrible day

Invitations arrive from

Friends and family

In overwhelming kindness

Yet, I cannot see bringing

Three dogs with me

Hours before Irma comes ashore

Heading for the motel

Driving down deserted Main Street

Might be the coming of

The Zombie Apocalypse

But it is merely a Category 5 Hurricane

Settled in sanctuary

Dogs dreaming on strange beds

Tapping my tablet

Social media taking away

The dread of loneliness

People care, even if we never met

So as I sweat

In a hotel without electricity

I think about the positives

Of Facebook, WordPress and Twitter

Dogs need trees

To lift their legs

So in the dark we walk

Incessant rain jabs the skin

Like plucking a splinter

With a pin

And as the wind becomes wilder

A cold, preternatural sensation

Lifts my curly hair above the nape

Twenty-four hours after

Prime bands from Irma

Begin to dissipate

A half rainbow appears

Been too many years

Since I believed that

Rainbows are a sign of happiness

And love to come, staying forever

Whether we go over or under it

But I ask for health and strength anyway

Always wise

To compromise

Never burn your bridges

Believe until the end

For we never know

Trepidationally driving home

Wondering if a Live Oak fell

Onto my tin trailer roof

Or if a long-term power outage

Renders my water well pump fruitless

My air conditioner within silent reach

Streets blocked by fallen trees

Flooded with muddied water

No humans seen in this continuing cataclysm

Will all end in anarchy

Without electricity?

But oh, as I bump along my dirt road

Pull into the marshy drive

Delicate banana trees broken at the spine

I see a beautiful sight

On! On! The outside light!

So grateful because I know

Many people lost their lives

Lost their homes

Maybe even lost their faith

In the battering wind and rain

This time, I received a gift

Thank you, thank you, thank you…

NEED YOU SO MUCH

Crashed internet

Claustrophobic invasion

Panicking the psyche

Puzzling because

Not a chit-chatterer

Yet living in a hot tin box

Bearable by

Escaping into an electronic one

One that doesn’t dictate

What to watch, say, eat, or pray to

Life a click away

Until the day

Of apocalyptic crashing

Four horses riding in

With power over me:

Duke Electric

Frontier FIOS

US Government

Credit Union bank error

All gone

And then

Then the walls close in…

“GET TOGETHER”

(scroll down for the Youngbloods video)

Obsessed all day

Must rid myself of the thoughts

About a social media incident

Wikipedia (and I must add

That although I earn $200

Over the poverty line

I yearly donate to them

Because knowledge is power)

So, okay, Wikipedia posted

A picture of a five-year-old girl

With an infant

Stating she was the youngest

To ever give birth

In 1933 Peru

And she was still living

So me, without coffee

–It hadn’t quite perked—

Flipped out

A no-no during Mercury Retrograde

But I commented angrily

That she was obviously raped

And demanded that Wikipedia

Pull the picture

Because the poor child

Now older than me

Could probably see

This entry

Wikipedia refused, not quite citing

The Free Speech Amendment

But the comments from others began

Some were sympathetic and joined in

Asking for deletion of the entry

But OMG, the comments of hate

Calling me names

Posting pregnancy pictures of this baby

And saying I deserved to suffer and look at her

HATE, HATE, HATE

From whom?  How do I label them?

Perverts? Crazies?

This raged on for too long and I deleted my comment

But of course I obsessed

But of course I feel devastated

But of course I wished myself

To be black and white and tiny

As I desperately clawed at the edges

Of a History book cover

Beads and flowers

Framing my face

Skipping through the pages

Searching for photographs

To slip into

Where peace signs and

Words like “Love”

Adorn the pages

Where I rightfully belong

Way back in time

Pressed between the leaves

In order not to wonder

Where  love of humanity has gone

Or did it ever exist

WTF were we thinking…?

TRUST THE EYES

Has the cosmic dance of Hindu gods

Dreaming the universe

Been replaced?

Who is dreaming ours now?

We are…

A phantasm eagerly entered every morning

(After awakening from our dreaming night)

Through blinding portals of square desktops

Hand-held phones

10-inch tablets

Instantly transformed to an illusory world

Peopled with strangers

Who sometimes appear more real

Than our real family and friends

Soulless relationships

Because the eyes are the window to the soul

Yet we have no eye contact

While we communicate

Through our clicking keyboards

Blindly trusting to what we want

Reality to be

Through force of will.
