Clarissa Simmens holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and various practitioner certificates in Herbal Studies (first learned from her Grandmother), Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Gi-Jo Acupressure. She is the author of fifteen poetry books available through Amazon. Writing poetry led to translating words into song lyrics and learning to play the baritone ukulele. She makes her home on the edge of a small swamp in Florida where, after decades of living in a northern city, she can finally dream and sing to the calls of Sand Hill Cranes, the crackling of scampering animals, and the croaking of off-key (like her) bull frogs.

Dear WordPress friends: I am unable to post on WordPress anymore so find me on FB as Clarissa Simmens or Blogetressa on Blogspot or email me at drabarni1@gmail.com Thanks and I seem to be able to access my reader so I can continue to enjoy your writing…
Only a free soul may have lived such intense experience…. I realize that I have to only admire those who struggle and make their choices distant from profitable and easy goals. Thus, Clarissa , thank you for this beautiful collection of poems and writings full of stimuli and interior thoughts.

I love this picture of you. I also love the minor keys and 60s and 70s folk music. Been playing guitar for years and have thought about trying the ukulele. Thank for the follow!

I’ve only played ukulele for a year but love the small size and lightness. Hope you do decide to play it!

Hi Clarissa, I nominated you for a few blog awards. Enjoy! Peace, EnglishLitGeek

Hi Denise (ELG 🙂 ) Thank you so much for your nominations. As a fellow-ELG, your blog is one of my favorites: very eclectic, reminding me of how much I had loved majoring in English, reading wonderful books, and writing 10 to 20 page papers! As you know from my poems, I’m HFA (High Functioning Autistic) and I tend to get overwhelmed by certain things. I probably should put a disclaimer that I’m award-free but I’ve been challenging myself to try to accept an award. I could easily talk about myself 🙂 but absolutely cannot make myself nominate people although every one of the people I follow (over 500) are more than deserving as writers of incredible blogs, stories and poetry. So I am grateful for the nomination and I will try to reach out and nominate others very soon. Thank you!

As I was leaving your page I saw the about button. One last comment. Almost everything I write is in a minor key. I also don’t accept awards. A lot of my reader’s aren’t bloggers but mostly I have so much I’m working on that to take the time to answer questions and nominate others — I just don’t think I’d do it justice. If I only wrote a blog maybe I would, but with 2 blogs, a book and a newsletter with my music and the need for social media, which is often a chore and reading other blood I like, catching up with everything is impossible. I put the effort where I need it the most – where the passion takes me. It is so hard to get back to the blogs I enjoy and then sometimes feel guilty that I’m ignoring them. Well, you take care. Bye bye.

I know exactly what you mean about feeling like you’re ignoring others when just writing and music and the minutiae of life takes up the entire day. I admire those who seem to handle it all and are so vibrant on social media. I sometimes think I should concentrate on one person’s blog, per day although that will take over a year to give equal time to all, If you come up with a pain-free system, please let me know 😀

It’s impossible to get back to all the blogs I’ve liked. I often judge a blog by the comments. If they only have maybe 4 word comments like “great blog!” “Thank you” “You’re welcome” “come to my blog”
“okay” then the blogger is 15 or has nothing to say. OR they have no clue what punctuation is and won’t capitalize “I”.
I enjoy conversation with people who have something to say. My 83 year old mother just doesn’t understand all this blogging stuff. It’s not her generation I tell her. I love conversations with people from all parts of the world at all times of day and night from all cultures and religions. To be able to do that, sitting on my bed, using my Nook while I nurse my broken arm and shoulder. I the my TV away decades ago. My old hippie is the same way as he sits behind his computer, too.

I don’t watch TV either. No time when writing poetry, playing ukulele, arguing with the dogs and wild birds and staring into the swamp. I have to say that I’m the type who rarely writes comments or when I do, they may consist of 4 words or a heart/smiley emoticon. It’s mainly because I feel shy. Also, I sometimes write comments and the blogger may gush over other people’s comments but just click “like” (maybe) for mine. For some stupid, time-machine-back-to-junior-high-school reason, I feel hurt. Autism? Maybe. Aries ego? Possibly. But I’m thrilled when people comment on my blog 🙂

Thanks, Tom & Audrey! Must confess, though, that if you know anything about music you’ll probably laugh. I don’t know how to read music and have only played the ukulele for a year and a half. But I did memorize 30 chords in that time and then tried matching my poems with whatever sounds good (to me) from the Circle of Fifths. So my music is what one person terms “campfire strumming” but I’m enjoying it anyway! Love your blog, BTW!

Awesome, keep strumming. I bet it sounds great behind the words.

Hi Jen, Anjum Wasim Dar posted it on FB and of course I’ve been devastated. I just went into Jamie’s FB page and see that some people have posted farewell tributes. I will attempt something also. Thank you for asking me if I knew because I tend to miss posts and only saw this one accidently. Wishing you good health and safety…
